You Will:
Perform histology and cytology procedures including specimen processing/fixation, cell block preparation, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, routine stains, IHC and special stains, and case organization in accordance with department procedures.
Assure positive sample, block and slide identification
Prepare and maintain reagents for routine stains and histology procedures.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and instrumentation per manufacturer & department procedures and per department schedule.
Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
Utilize independent judgement and problem-solving skills to ensure the accuracy of procedures performed and proper equipment performance.
Troubleshoots and takes appropriate corrective action to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely manner for resolution.
Adhere to department policy with regards to performance and documentation of quality control and quality assurance for instrumentation, equipment and procedures performed.
You Should Have:
High School Diploma AND minimum two years of histology experience
OR High School Diploma AND completion of an accredited program in Histotechnology
OR Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology AND one year of histology experience
OR Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry
National Certification as a MT (ASCP) or HT (ASCP) required
Ability to follow protocols for the proper fixation and routine staining of samples
Ability to consistently prepare and produce specimen sections with appropriate slide orientation, thickness, and stain quality for microscopic diagnosis by a pathologist
Demonstrates good technique in the cutting, embedding, orientation and staining of specimens
General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements
Excellent communication, teamwork and organizational skills. Sets a positive example.
