Summary of Position:
The Histology Technician is responsible for the accurate preparation and analysis of histological testing performed or the overseeing of histological testing. This involves constant monitoring of quality control procedures, minor equipment maintenance, specimen collection techniques and consultation with other pathology staff.

Essential Functions:
Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
Monitors and ensures accurate and timely services in all areas of the Pathology Department.
Is responsible for the routine operation equipment and instrumentation to include validating the performance of equipment through the use of control tissue and other verification methods.
Consistently demonstrates knowledge of requirements, techniques, and procedures to ensure accurate and timely delivery of services. Including collection techniques, specimen requirements, and tissue and fluid processing techniques.
Supports the day to day operations of the Pathology laboratory to ensure accurate results and efficient workflow
Determines priorities in workload and completes projects in an accurate and timely manner.
Recognizes unusual conditions outside of his/her expertise and seeks guidance of coworkers or supervisors.
Effectively coordinates scheduled daily activities to ensure productivity standards are met and work is completed in a timely manner.
Operates and ensures proper functioning of equipment and instrumentation and follows procedure when equipment malfunctions. Documents malfunctions and corrective actions.
Keeps updated policies and procedures.
Demonstrates a working knowledge of regulatory and licensing standards and ensures that practice is compliant with standards.
Can be called upon to orientate, instruct, and train assigned personnel.
Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
