HIMS Front Desk Representative

Lincoln Community Health Center, Inc., a federally qualified community health center located in Durham, NC is recruiting for a HIMS Front Desk Representative. Durham is known as the Bull City, the City of Medicine, the Tastiest Town in the South, and the Startup Capital of the South.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The HIMS Front Desk representative is involved in maintaining medical records to include maintaining associated logs and records in accordance with established priorities and procedures. Receives, validates, and handles requests for health information. Performs a variety of clerical duties including greeting customers, answering departmental telephones, handles facsimiles, release of information duties, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

EDUCATION

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent, supplemented by college business classes; Associates degree in Health Information Management or related field preferred.
  • 1 to 3 -years clerical/receptionist experience. Previous Health Information Services (Medical Records) experience in Release of Information preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) but not required
  • Computer skills, to include Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, etc. Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology desirable.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Exceptional broad knowledge of confidentiality and release of information policies, federal and state statutes regarding authorized release of medical information from patient medical records.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail and concentrate in spite of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to apply laws and regulations on confidentiality and release of health information (i.e. NC State Laws, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to communicate and interact with peers, physicians, patient care personnel, and the public
  • Ability to work independently under pressure with time constraints and minimal supervision.
  • Keen analytical ability, detail oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time, able to set priorities and use independent judgment in order to effectively and efficiently carry out responsibilities without supervision.
  • Ability to navigate efficiently through patient registration system, and paper and EMR to find needed information
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, follows through with tasks, make decisions without direct supervision
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment: PC, Registration and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, scanner, printer, facsimile, telephone, copier, etc.
  • Ability to navigate the patient registration and EHR systems
  • Knowledge of medical record format and content for all patient records
  • Ability to examine record and verify patient identification
  • Ability to evaluate and process documents with accuracy
  • Ability to examine forms, standard and nonstandard, and determine proper handling & placement
  • Minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and adjust setting on the scanning equipment
