Job Description

Lumenance is looking for a motivated and skilled Connector Design Engineer with a passion for high-voltage applications, ideally within the automotive industry. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a Tier 1 European automotive supplier and make a real impact.

We offer flexible work locations, but you'll get to travel to meet with exciting automotive OEM clients, mostly in Detroit and California. Travel could be up to 30%, depending on where you're based.

Job Duties:

  • Assess new High Voltage engineering projects for viability (design limitations, cost concerns, functionality, and trade-offs). Present these issues to the engineering team along with recommendations for resolution,
  • Development and design of innovative high-voltage connection systems - from the idea to series production (e.g. terminals, housings, charging inlets, charging couplings)
  • Elaboration and implementation of new development concepts based on your market knowledge, analyses and future trends
  • Proactively work with customers to find "best fit" solutions through component selection and know-how of process capabilities
  • Identify high voltage connector design options based on requirements.
  • As needed, develop custom solution and/or modify existing connectors to meet application needs.
  • Establish structured, detailed development documentation
  • Design, write and conduct functional and validation testing to industry and OEM specific standards
  • Show strong design capabilities with 2D and 3D CAD software
  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if the design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Support sales with Business Development activities and act as primary technical contact person for customers

(may require travel up to 30%)

  • Ability to proactively identify and resolve engineering and manufacturing related issues and have a thorough understanding of product manufacturing processes
  • Conduct or participate in design review meetings
  • Assessing feasibility of new business opportunities including cost estimates
  • Estimate material/fabrication costs for new products and processes \u2013 execute product /process development to cost targets and communicate cost vs. performance conflicts early in the design
  • Resolve technical and manufacturing issues without detailed direction, and work as part of a multicultural team
  • Work within strict deadlines with full ownership of the individual assigned responsibility
  • Project related work maybe conducted at customer site (Resident Engineering). This may require to be located close to customer facility for a period of the project.

Requirements

  • Advanced Engineering Degree (Mechanical/Mechatronic or equivalent) with a min. of 5 years' experience in the product development of high-voltage connector systems in the automotive environment based on the IATF 16949 standard
  • Experience designing or specifying high voltage connectors - preferably for automotive or similar transportation applications
  • Very good knowledge in the application of Six Sigma/Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodology in the development of technology products and processes
  • Experience and knowledge in the manufacturing process of HV connectors (using DFM & FMEA) and corresponding industry standards (e.g. LV 214, USCAR 2, LV 215)
  • Knowledge of Automotive Engineering standards, processes and requirements
  • System know-how of Product Lifecycle Management tools such as Siemens TeamCenter and 3D CAD systems (Autodesk Inventor, Solidworks) and proficient with MS Office application
  • Defined project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Possess excellent organizational, communication, proofreading, editing and technical writing skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to drive for results
  • Very good English (written and verbal)
