The High Vacuum Finish and Applications Engineer will facilitate and enable efforts in PVD and High Vacuum Finishing towards the production of color controls for Delta suppliers as well as to support research and development efforts in high vacuum processes. Along with fabrication of color controls, the position will enable research and development of new and unique high vacuum finishes that will expand Delta's footprint and share in the marketplace. The ideal candidate will master the production of color control panels and effectively work with Delta Product Development teams to operationalize new finishes and new processes. They will work with both the Greensburg Finishing Excellence team and Delta Product Development teams to meet business objectives and metrics for Delta. The position will also focus on improved safety and sustainable environmental impacts, cost and scrap reduction and improved quality. This position will offer the opportunity to work on multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with suppliers and industry experts to advance our understanding and capabilities in high vacuum processes. This role will play a key part in realizing the implementation of multiple high vacuum process improvements. This position will work closely with plant and corporate personnel. Responsibilities will involve projects at Delta Greensburg but could involve collaboration and investigation at other manufacturing sites and some travel may be required. The High Vacuum Finish and Applications Engineer must be able to design and conduct experimental research independently and summarize and present results to key stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement end-to-end research and development efforts on Finishing Processes in collaboration with Delta Product Development and Finishing Teams
- Define and meet timelines and performance metrics in ambiguous situations where outcomes are not pre-determined.
- Ownership and delivery of Indianapolis and plant metrics designed to meet research and development cadences with production of control standards
- Ability to properly evaluate and train others to evaluate visual attributes such as color/texture and gloss.
- Ability to define PVD and high vacuum process parameters and their relationship with visual characteristics performance levels. Implementation of these parameters in developmental activities.
- Work with finishing leadership to recommend process, PFMEA and control plan changes to enhance performance and reduce costs.
- Routinely designing/running and documenting DOEs .
- Evaluation of results of experiments involving raw / finished components using Delta

- Observing component changes during processing to develop a thorough understanding of process conditions and their impacts to finished materials and cost.
- Keeping detailed documentation and notes on processes and results.
- Interacting with production employees and plant leadership to facilitate experimentation and training in high vacuum processes.
- Packaging. labeling and shipping of materials to and from plants to facilitate process development and timely results.
- Corrosion and quality testing based on ASTM standard methodologies.
- Summarizing and communicating information to stakeholders at all levels
