High School Special Education Teacher (Work from Home)

The Wisconsin Virtual Academies (WVA) are three public charter schools authorized by the McFarland School District and powered by Stride K12, Inc. (Wisconsin Virtual Academy, Insight School of Wisconsin, and Destinations Career Academy). Our mission is to provide equitable, personalized learning opportunities for students no matter where they are, who they are, or what they need. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated, and organized candidate for a full-time High School Special Education Teacher position at Destinations Career Academy. This position was added due to growth and will start on August 10, 2026. Destinations Career Academy of Wisconsin (DCA) is an innovative, tuition-free online school for grades 9-12 that combines core academics with industry-relevant, career-focused electives-giving students a jump-start on their college and career goals. While working toward their high school diplomas, students can choose from a variety of courses in high-demand career fields. Students can participate in career-oriented clubs, gain workplace skills, and prepare to take industry-recognized certification exams in their chosen career path upon graduation.

Position Overview:

Special education teachers manage and elevate the learning of students with IEPs using various instructional methods, accommodations, and modifications. Special education teachers meet all IEP-related deadlines and develop compliant, thorough IEPs aligned to student needs. This position is primarily remote with some travel. It is imperative that you are self-motivated, reliable, organized, and passionate about meeting the needs of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following statements describe the general natural and scope of work of a special education teacher. This is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities, duties, or skills required; other duties may be assigned.

• Provide data-driven, culturally responsive specialized instruction as required by students' IEPs
• Adapt instructional methods and materials to meet individual students' needs and interests
• Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all lessons
• Regularly analyze data and monitor students' progress toward IEP goals and objectives
• Develop compliant IEPs that are aligned to individual student needs
• Meet all deadlines per local, state, and national policies and statutes
• Facilitate student-centered, efficient IEP meetings tailored to student and parent needs
• Assist coordinator and school psychologist with the three-year re-evaluation process (e.g, testing, paperwork)
• Orient students to the online learning environment and communicate expectations and requirements
• Collaborate with general and special education teachers to provide positive learning experiences for students
• Co-teach with general education teacher(s) in order to ensure student success in the mainstream setting
• Attend all required virtual meetings and professional development, as scheduled
• Travel to in-person school events, as required (e.g., professional development, testing, graduation)
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with all members of the school community
• Be available and responsive to students, families, and staff, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00a - 4:30p
• Work from a professional home office, conducive to audio and video and a structured schedule

• In-depth understanding of learning standards and subject matter
• Able to support and guide students as well as adults
• Adept at learning and navigating multiple student information systems and other platforms
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (e.g., Office, Outlook, OneDrive, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
