Position Summary:
The Kitchen Staff member is responsible for preparing and serving the main lunch meal in a high school cafeteria. This position ensures food is prepared safely, served efficiently, and that all kitchen operations meet health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook main lunch menu items according to daily menus
- Review menus daily to ensure proper food preparation and portions
- Take and record food temperatures in compliance with food safety guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and work areas
- Serve students in a timely, friendly, and professional manner
- Operate point-of-sale (POS) system and handle cash transactions accurately
- Assist with food setup, line service, and breakdown after meal service
- Follow all health department and school nutrition program regulations
Qualifications:
- ServSafe Certification required
- Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils
- Ability to follow recipes and meal production guidelines
- Comfortable using a computer and handling money transactions
- Strong attention to cleanliness and food safety
- Ability to work well with others
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25-40 pounds
- Daily cleaning
Preferred Skills:
- Previous food service or school cafeteria experience
