Special Education Teacher - Essential Skills

Qualifications Must hold a valid Indiana teaching license Intense Intervention preferred however will consider Mild Intervention

Job Description Special Education Teacher of Record for students who receive part-time or full-time instruction within an Essential Skills classroom.

Perform all duties of Teacher of Record.

Provide specially designed instruction for students to demonstrate proficiency toward the Alternate Achievement Standards depending on individualized student needs.

Develop visual supports and structured work systems for students and ensure implementation with fidelity across all settings.

Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments with the districts BCBA as appropriate for individual students.

Develop and implement Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans with fidelity.

Collect academic and behavioral progress monitoring data to inform instruction.

Collaborate with general education teachers to modify instruction andor ensure accommodations to support engagement within the general education classroom as appropriate for individual students.

Collaborate with all special education team members including Speech and Language Pathologists and occupational and Physical Therapists to ensure students individualized needs are met.

Ensure therapists recommendations are implemented throughout the students day to support the generalization of skills i.e. use of low-tech high-tech AAC devices positioning during various activities implementing sensory activities.

Collaborate with the building level and district administration.

Build the Instructional Assistants capacity regarding instruction behavior support and the carryover of the students IEP.

Develop compliant meaningful IEPs and lead case conferences for students on caseload.

Conduct transition assessments to develop meaningful transition plans for students as appropriate.

Teach and support vocational skill development for high school-aged students.

Provide instruction and support for self-care skills including toileting as appropriate for individual students.

Establish and maintain positive relationships with families.

Maintain confidentiality.
