High School English Teacher

The first day of school for teachers will be August 28th. Must be MA DESE Certified in 9-12 English. A two day New Teacher Orientation will take place on August 18th and 19th. The first day of school for teachers will be August 25th. TITLE: ENGUSH TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Masters Degree Preferred. At least two years of successful classroom teaching, at least one of which is in the field of English. 9-12 English MA DESE certification with SEI Endorsement. REPORTS TO: Principal POSITION GOAL: To develop in each student, skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing that are fundamental to good communication and literate citizenship; to develop appreciation of good literature of all types; to motivate students to read widely for information and recreation; to develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass media; to discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, and journalism to students, utilizing course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
• Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Adapt English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
• Select and requisition books and instructional aids appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students; maintain inventory records.
• Adapt the curriculum to provide individual and small group, to meet the needs of the individual student.
• Develop standard of critical thinking through group discussions based on a variety of mass media, classical and contemporary literature.
• Vary class instruction to motivate students and encourage students to think independently and express original ideas.
• Evaluate each student's progress in English skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing).
• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
• Communicate with parents and school administration on students' progress.
• Supervise student in out-of-the-classroom activities during the assigned working day as assigned by building principal.
• Work with students and other classroom teachers in activities across the curriculum.
• Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.
• Participate cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method of evaluation in conformance with established guidelines.
• Assume responsibility for own professional growth and development and keep current with literature, new research findings and improved techniques.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year shall be determined by and be consistent with the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association. EVALAUTION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the current agreement between the Maynard School Committee and the Maynard Education Association.
