TITLE: Guidance Director

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0) salary commensurate with experience and education, eligible for benefits in line with offerings through the Town of Seekonk.

ANTICIPATED START DATE: 07/01/2026

REPORTS TO: Seekonk High School Principal

LOCATION: Seekonk High School

QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered qualified for this position, candidates must minimally have the following:

  • Licensed or licensable as a Guidance/School Counselor (9-12) and Supervisor/Director by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education,
  • At least three (3) years of successful experience in a school counseling setting.
  • Compliance with all regulations regarding ethical practice as it pertains to student records and mandated reporting.
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills, for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, and/or resolving conflicts.
  • Strong understanding of the current post-secondary landscape for students.
  • Experience with the Follett Aspen Student Information System is preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS which include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as leader of the High School Guidance Department, and supervise and evaluate the school counseling team/other related personnel.
  • Serve as the guidance counselor for each year's ninth grade class (approximately 140 students) to facilitate their transition from middle school and launch a strong high school experience.
  • With school administration and teacher leadership, act as a leader in course programming and course scheduling for the school, including making annual updates to the Program of Studies and development of the master schedule in Aspen.
  • With school administration, explore, evaluate, and implement career pathways, dual enrollment opportunities and capstone/internship programs.
  • Coordinate and supervise state and national student assessment including MCAS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, Advanced Placement (AP), and ACCESS.
  • With the counseling team and in coordination with school administration, provide programming for families around college applications, financial aid, and other post-secondary opportunities.
  • Assist in coordinating and presenting student awards, honor ceremonies, scholarships, and commencement exercises.
  • Attend School Committee meetings as directed by the Superintendent.
  • Perform other relevant duties as directed by the High School Principal.

WORK YEAR: Negotiable, 191 days to full year.

SALARY RANGE: $105,000-$125,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
