Department Overview

We believe our well coordinated clinical care contributes to our outcomes that are among the best in the country. Work as part of team that includes Hematology-Oncology physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing, social work, physical therapy, child life and clinic assistants. The Hematology-Oncology department at Children''s of Minnesota provides care for children of all ages with all types of malignancies including brain tumors, solid tumors, and leukemia; and blood disorders such as sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and anemia. As the largest provider of services for children with cancer and bleeding disorders in the region, the Hematology/Oncology program focuses on providing well-coordinated knowledge-driven clinical care. We participate in national and international research and are leaders in research on supportive care and quality of life for children with cancer and bleeding disorders.

Position Summary

This role will provide professional family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents as delegated by a provider or RN which may include the following duties:

  • Escort patients to exam room and appropriately document information.
  • Prepare and administer medications and injections as directed by a clinician.
  • Perform and assist with procedures and treatments as directed by clinician, such as; administering hearing/vision tests, rapid strep testing, nebulizer treatments and urine catheterizations.
  • Perform laboratory specimen collection and processing to ensure the accurate and appropriate performance of patient testing while maintaining patient dignity, comfort and confidentiality.
  • Maintain knowledge of, and comply with, all relevant laws, regulations and policies, procedures and standards.

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR completion of an LPN/LVN or RN program.

Preferred:

  • 1 year experience in a clinic setting or completion of Medical Assistant externship at a Children''s Minnesota Clinic.
  • Pediatric experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Phlebotomy and basic laboratory skills (if required by clinic site).

License/Certifications:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

The posted salary represents a market competitive range based on salary survey benchmark data for similar roles in the local or national market. Annual salaries displayed are based on full-time employment (40 standard hrs per week). Annual salaries for part-time positions will be prorated based on the employee's scheduled weekly hours in relation to the full-time standard. When determining individual pay rates, we carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, internal equity and organizational needs.

In addition to your salary, this position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other fringe benefits. Positions that require night, weekend or on-call work may be eligible for shift differentials or premium pay.
