This position performs journey-level, skilled technical work inspecting, repairing, overhauling, and servicing City-owned helicopters and related equipment in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and Pasadena Police Department policies and procedures.The ideal candidate will be detail oriented and have working knowledge of performing a full range of maintenance, inspection and repairs on City owned certificated and non-certificated helicopters. The duties and responsibilities of this class are governed by established maintenance schedules, manufacturer data, and Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Inspections performed by employees of this class are limited to those mechanics who possess a current Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic's certificate. Employees of this class receive technical supervision but must also exercise prudent and safety-oriented judgment. Essential Functions The major responsibilities of this position are listed below. For more detailed information, please review the job description.Inspects, diagnoses, services and repairs helicopter airframes, engines, transmissions, rotor systems, gear boxes, control assemblies, instrumentation/electrical systems, hydraulic systems, accessories and law enforcement technology systems and equipment, in accordance with the manufacturers manuals, notices, bulletins and Airworthiness Directives as issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.Evaluates helicopter fleet safety of flight conditionsReports discrepancies/problems.Participates in check flights to aid in aircraft troubleshooting and diagnostics.Evaluates maintenance work to be performed in terms of time required, parts needed and costs involved.Records and maintains aircraft maintenance records.Logs books and other records.Ensures safe work practices are used when performing maintenance and repairs. Special Requirements Must possess a valid California Class C drivers license and comply with the Citys Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.A valid Airframe and Power Plant Mechanics License issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is required.Must provide a rollaway tool cabinet with the required tools to perform general maintenance on helicopter fleet.A valid Inspection Authorization Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration is preferred. Successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation is required which may include a review of employment history, criminal conviction record, credit history, use of intoxicants and/or other controlled substances, and polygraph evaluation.
