Heavy Equipment Technician / Mechanic – Commerce City, CO

About the Role
Faris Machinery is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician / Mechanic to join our Commerce City team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining a wide range of construction equipment. You will utilize your expertise in hydraulics, diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, and welding to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, service, and repair construction equipment systems including hydraulics, brakes, engines, drivetrains, and electrical components
- Diagnose, rebuild, and repair engines, motors, and related mechanical systems
- Perform disassembly and reassembly of equipment and components as needed
- Utilize arc welding and oxy-acetylene equipment for fabrication and repair work
- Accurately complete service reports documenting:
- Work performed
- Parts and materials used
- Time spent and labor details
- Equipment model and serial numbers
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Report equipment malfunctions, hazards, and repair needs to management
- Communicate equipment status and repair progress with the Service Manager
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities
- Assist team members and support shop operations as needed
Work Environment & Requirements
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely
- Standard schedule is Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment repair, or a related field preferred
- 3–10+ years of heavy equipment technician experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair procedures
- Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to obtain a Colorado Class B CDL
Preferred Qualifications
- Welding experience including arc and oxy-acetylene welding
- Previous experience in a heavy equipment dealership environment
- Current CDL (Class B or higher)
- OEM training or certifications
