Position Requirements
Experience: Minimum 3 years operating heavy equipment in manufacturing environments (scrap metal or construction industries preferred).
Technical Skills: Knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles, safety precautions, and basic mechanical aptitude.
Workplace Adaptability: Ability to adapt to shifting priorities, follow written and oral instructions, work without constant supervision, and cross-train in other roles.
Physical Capability & Availability: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work flexible overtime/weekends/holidays outdoors, and maintain dependable attendance.
Language (Preferred): Bilingual capabilities in Spanish are a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
Equipment Operation: Operate heavy equipment (cranes, loaders) and small equipment (forklifts, skid steers) to load trucks/railcars, feed shredder conveyors, and move yard materials.
Safety & Maintenance: Perform daily equipment inspections, uphold OSHA and company safety standards, clear grounds debris, and report mechanical defects to supervisors.
Yard Communication & Support: Coordinate traffic and production via radio communication and assist team members with general labor and clean-up duties as assigned.
Western Metals Recycling (a Nucor company) is seeking a skilled Equipment Operator I to join our team in Plymouth, UT. In this role, you will operate heavy machinery such as cranes and loaders to clear debris, load scrap material onto shredder feed conveyors, and move inventory across the yard. The top 3 requirements for this position are 3+ years of heavy equipment operating experience in a manufacturing or scrap environment, strong adherence to safety/OSHA protocols, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions with physical agility.
