Overview
Position is responsible for providing the operation of all types of construction machinery such as, Asphalt Pavers, Milling Machines, Roller, earth moving equipment and the coordination of the work activities of personnel assigned to assist with construction activities.
Position Responsibilities
Operate a variety of powered (light and heavy) construction equipment such as, but not limited to: Asphalt Paver, Milling Machines, front-end-loaders, backhoe, lifts, graders, heavy trucks, and other related earth moving equipment.
Perform minor maintenance services on vehicles and equipment used such as, but not limited to: washing, tightening chains, replacing cables and bolts, checks tire inflation, and lubrication according to the manufacturers recommended schedule.
Direct work activities of assigned personnel in executing delegated tasks.
Enforce job-site safety regulations and standards.
Assume responsibility for taking appropriate and necessary actions in the event of job related injuries and in the absence of a supervisor.
Will be required to work overtime as assigned.
Will be held accountable for all tools, equipment, and materials supplied by the City to perform assigned duties.
Assists with asphalt patching, crack sealing, concrete work, playground equipment repair, grounds keeping and other related duties.
Assists with snow removal functions
Cleans/washes equipment as needed

Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required. Operate a variety of powered (light and heavy) construction equipment such as, but not limited to: Asphalt Paver, Milling Machines, Roller, front-end-loaders, backhoe, lifts, graders, heavy trucks, and other related earth moving equipment. May be required to perform manual tasks that require lifting and carrying of objects fifty (50) pounds or more. A valid Class A CDL Driver's License is preferred, Class B license required. Knowledge of and work experience in safe and efficient operation of all construction equipment, and ability to provide minor maintenance of such equipment. Working knowledge of applicable traffic laws and regulations regarding the operation of assigned equipment on the public right-of-way. Ability to perform safe and correct procedures for Asphalt Paver, Milling Machines, and related operations according to verbal and written instructions. Ability to read and understand operation manuals, engineering illustrations. Ability to perform all the following assignments: straight pulling, walking, standing and kneeling. Ability to perform mental - muscular coordination. Ability to distinguish colors. Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical. These are the minimum requirements of this position.
Independent Judgment
Actions are controlled by City and Departmental policies and procedures. Decisions may occur when determining the proper sequence of steps or when making minor variations from established methods. Work is reviewed on a spot check basis by a supervisor who is generally available. Work assignments are conveyed via supervision or crew leader.
All rates are weekly.

IMPORTANT PERF UPDATE:
Annuity Savings Account (ASA) -This consists of the mandatory employee contribution of three (3%) percent of compensation (made for the employee by the City), plus interest credits or earnings. Youre always vested in your ASA portion - its always yours.
Pension - The pension portion of the retirement benefit is funded by contributions made by the employer over the course of the employees career and separate from the annuity savings account. Employees enrolled in the PERF Hybrid plan are eligible for retirement benefits at age sixty-five (65) if they have ten (10) or more years of creditable service. After June 30, 1995, employees may retire at age sixty (60) with at least fifteen (15) years of credible service or if the members age in years plus the years of credible service equals at least 85 and the member is at least fifty-five (55) years of age. With fifteen (15) or more years of creditable service, the employee may retire as early as age fifty (50) with a reduced pension.
With the PERF My Choice: Retirement Savings Plan, the ASA is split up into two parts:
Part one - This consists of the mandatory employee contribution of three (3%) percent of compensation (made for the employee by the City), plus interest credits or earnings. Youre always vested in your ASA portion - its always yours.
Part two - This consists of an additional variable rate contribution paid by the City toward your ASA. This variable rate contribution is currently 1% of your gross wages. Vesting in the value of the variable rate employer contribution will vary by length of participation. You are:

The Indiana General Assembly has enacted a provision that allows public employees to make voluntary contributions in addition to the mandatory three percent (3%) contributions. Employees may contribute up to an additional ten- percent (10%) of their compensation per pay period to the annuity savings account. This means that the maximum level of contributions to the annuity savings account under this new provision is thirteen percent (13%) of an employees compensation per pay period.
