Overview
Heavy Equipment Mechanic (EAGLE 2025-24025):
Bowhead seeksaHeavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in support of the Maintenance and Supply Divisions at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen,MD. The Heavy Equipment Mechanicisresponsible fora variety of tasks supporting manydepartmentsbut typical dutiesinclude analyzing malfunctions and repairing and rebuilding heavy equipment.
This contract is governed by a CBA, and as such, any employee accepting employment on this contract will be required to join the CBA within 30 days of beginning employment.
Responsibilities
Essential functions will include:
- Analyzing malfunctionsand repairs,rebuildandmaintainsheavy equipment, such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, paving machines, motor graders, trench-digging machines, conveyors, bulldozers, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
- Operatingand inspectingmachines or equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantling and reassemblingequipment,using hoists and hand tools.
- Examiningparts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- Replacingdefective engines and sub-assemblies, such as transmissions.
- Testingand overhaulingequipmentto insure operating efficiency.
- Welds broken parts.
- Identifyingparts required for repairs using repair manuals, end item tech support or Internet search.
- Cleaningparts and assembles and disassembles equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent isrequiredin addition to at leasttwo+)years’experience as a heavy equipment mechanicAND at least two (2+) years of experience as a qualified welder isrequired
- Mustpossessa valid state Commercial Driver License (CDL) with acceptable driving record pertinent to theposition, orbe able to obtain a valid state CDL within 90 days of hiring. Mustmaintainthe CDL and an acceptable driving record during the duration of employment
- Mustpossessand maintain welding qualificationin accordance withAmerican Welding Society (AWS) standards for theequipment and material utilized
- Any prior experience with government contracts and locations is helpful
- Basic to intermediatelevel skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
Physical Demands:
- Lift/carry/push/slide up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Bend, squat, stoop, crouch, and lean.
- Sit for long periods of time operating a computer keyboard.
- Repeat the same movements.
- Exposure to excessive noise.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. Due to the location of this work, U.S. citizenship is required. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
