Heavy Civil Paving Equipment Specialist

About the role

Join a crew that builds and rehabilitates roads, runways, and ground-covered surfaces by expertly operating paving and support equipment.

Primary responsibilities

• Operate pavers and related machinery to place, spread, smooth, level, or steel‑reinforce stone, concrete, and asphalt on roadbeds
• Start heating units, light burners, set screed temperatures, and regulate asphalt flow rates
• Control paver to push dump trucks and maintain a consistent feed into hoppers/screeds
• Coordinate truck dumping to sustain production and quality
• Compact earth fills and finished materials with tampers or by rolling to grade specifications
• Perform handwork, including shoveling blacktop and detailing edges
• Operate oil distributors, loaders, and dump trucks as needed
• Load machines onto trailers; drive trucks to transport equipment and materials to/from job sites
• Monitor mat distribution; identify low spots; adjust machine settings and direct crew to add material
• Fill tanks and hoppers with paving materials
• Cut/break pavement with interchangeable hammer attachments
• Run machines to clean/cut expansion joints and rout cracks in pavements
• Conduct daily safety and maintenance checks; clean equipment and securely store it at shift end
• Calculate and order job materials; lay out parking stalls for paint
• Report maintenance/repair needs to supervisor and participate in routine maintenance
• Wear required PPE and practice continuous workplace safety
• Perform other duties as required

• Experience operating paving equipment across road, runway, and similar projects
• Equipment Troubleshooting
• Troubleshooting Skills
• Material Handler Experience
• Strong understanding of industry standards, policies, and site procedures
• Organized and detail-oriented with accurate material calculations
