This 158-bed rehabilitation hospital, with plans for continued expansion, serves a broad referral network throughout the Lexington market and surrounding communities. Position Overview
The Business Development Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the hospital's business development and physician outreach efforts. This leader will be responsible for driving census growth, developing referral relationships, coaching and mentoring business development professionals, and executing market strategies that support continued organizational success.
This is a highly visible leadership role requiring a clinically licensed professional with a proven track record of success in healthcare business development, sales leadership, and relationship management.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a large business development team covering the Lexington market and surrounding communities
- Provide strategic direction for referral development, physician relations, and market growth initiatives
- Coach and mentor managers and liaisons to achieve performance goals
- Analyze market trends, referral patterns, and growth opportunities
- Build and strengthen relationships with physicians, case managers, discharge planners, healthcare executives, and community partners
- Collaborate closely with hospital leadership to drive admissions growth and market share
- Monitor team performance and ensure accountability for results
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of business development personnel
Team Structure
- Approximately 30 team members within the business development organization
- Three managers providing direct oversight of liaison teams
- Established team with strong tenure and a history of success
Market Coverage
The business development team supports referral relationships throughout the Lexington market, including several major acute care health systems, with coverage extending approximately one hour from the city.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold an active clinical license in one of the following disciplines:
- Registered Nurse (RN)
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
- Social Worker (SW)
- Speech Language Pathologist (SLP)
- Physical Therapist (PT)
- Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA)
- Occupational Therapist (OT)
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA/OTA)
Additional qualifications include:
- Minimum of five years of healthcare business development, sales leadership, or marketing leadership experience
- Previous experience leading and developing healthcare sales or liaison teams
- Demonstrated success driving admissions growth and referral development
- Strong relationship-building skills with physicians, case managers, managed care organizations, and healthcare executives
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Knowledge of physician relations, case management, managed care, and local healthcare market dynamics preferred
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
