Position Summary:
Coordinates and performs the receptionist role and coordinates all non-clinical functions on a clinical unit. Accountable to the Registered Nurse.
Communicates effectively with patient, visitors and health care team.
Serves as gatekeeper for physician and nursing orders into the Patient Computer System (Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Coordinates scheduling of diagnostic procedures and outpatient appointments.
Assists with patient flow and patient safety.
Maintains patient charts.
Operates nursing unit equipment: pneumatic tube system, intercom system, fax machine, computer, printer and multi-line telephone.
Plans and executes a daily routine for performance of non-clinical tasks for the Nursing Unit.
Position Qualification:
High school diploma or GED preferred; one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by The National Association of Health Unit Coordinators preferred.
Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and have excellent organizational skills. Health Unit Coordinator (Unit Secretary) experience preferred. Health related experience required.
