JOB PURPOSE

The Health Resource Specialist supports individuals and families seeking affordable healthcare. This role screens callers for Nevada health programs-including AHN, Medicaid, Medicare, and Nevada Check-Up-and assists with enrollment through Nevada Health Link. The specialist also provides backup coverage for Front Office operations as needed.

Typical schedule: 8:00a–4:30p or 8:00a–5:00p when covering Front Office

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide clear, unbiased information and enrollment assistance for Nevada Health Link and other health programs.
  • Screen callers based on income and family size to determine appropriate program eligibility.
  • Handle inquiry calls, answer questions, and make referrals promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate, timely data entry and use critical thinking to support callers effectively.
  • Communicate available AHN programs and community resources.
  • Work with supervisor to ensure caller needs are resolved efficiently.
  • Assist with Front Office coverage as needed.
  • Attend outreach events and community meetings (occasionally on weekends).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) required.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to drive AHN company car.
  • Ability to obtain an Exchange Enrollment Facilitator (EEF) License within 60 days (up to 5 attempts; 3 funded by AHN).
  • Knowledge of AHN services and willingness to learn administrative systems.
  • Must follow HIPAA guidelines.
  • Regular participation in staff and interdepartmental meetings.
  • Flexibility with work schedule based on departmental needs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent Required.
  • Minimum of two years of customer service experience required.
  • At least two years of experience using computer systems and databases, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and internet navigation.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of public health programs or insurance preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and the employee usually works in a climate-controlled office environment.
  • Ability to travel and drive for extended periods (up to four hours at a time).
  • Be able to sit at a computer for up to 6 – 8 hours per day.
  • Be able to stand between 3 – 6 hours per day.
  • Be able to withstand frequent hand/wrist deviation and repetition.
  • Must be able to lift, carry up to 30 pounds with a fair consistency.
