Summary of Job Duties:

The Health Information Specialist Lead assumes the responsibility of the manager during the absence of the manager. This person is responsible for assisting in the coordination and indexing of outside records received via fax and Epic Care Everywhere. This person ensures that all requests are sent to the appropriate in-box of Trace and creates a referral record in EPIC for all new requests. This person will insure that scheduled appointments have outside records appropriately scanned into Epic and is available to providers prior to the scheduled appointment.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of experience in health information, medical or legal experience

OR .

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field of study plus three (3) years of experience in health information, medical or legal experience

OR

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field of study plus one (1) year of experience in health information, medical or legal experience.
  • NOTE: Will accept current enrollment in a relevant and related field of study.
  • Must be an expert in state and federal laws, HIPAA regulations, and UAMS release of information policies and procedures to ensure that patient health information is protected.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
  • Current RHIT or RHIA certification or eligibility

Additional Information:

Job Requirements:

  • Monitors the team's correspondence log for all requests on a daily basis. Provides daily statistics to supervisor/manager
  • Responsible for ensuring the team meets expectations for referral turnaround
  • Monitors staff performance through various methodologies including monthly quality/productivity audits
  • Assumes responsibility of manager during the absence of the manager
  • Responsible for assisting in the coordination and indexing of outside records received via Trace and email
  • Ensures that all requests are sent to the appropriate in-box of Trace and creates a referral shell in EPIC for all new requests
  • Updates their correspondence log for all requests on a daily basis
  • Responsible for various reports
  • Ensure that scheduled appointments have outside records sent to Medical Records to be scanned to the Electronic Patient Folder (EPF) and available to providers prior to the scheduled appointment
  • Monitor and forward health information requests to appropriate areas within the institution
  • Periodically is assigned special projects and related duties and may be required to assist in other areas of the department as determined by supervisor/manager
