Process requests for medical records using electronic health record system. Work with other departments to ensure appropriate and complete information is sent to patients and other organizations. Complete audits as requested by insurance companies. Fill out FMLA, workers compensation, and disability paperwork. Communicate with clinical staff for completion of medical records requests and standardized paperwork. Work as part of the HIM team to ensure electronic health records are available, complete and accurate in a timely manner.
Must have knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy rules. Able to use computer, copier, telephone, scanner, and fax machine. Analyze medical records requests for validity, ensuring the requestor is legally authorized to obtain copies of health information. Print records, save records to a CD/DVD if requested, mail or fax records as requested. Create invoice and track for payment if necessary. Use RAC tracking software to log and track RAC (and other) requests/audits/appeals. Communicate receipt, processing, resolution and appeals of RAC audits. Other duties as assigned by HIM Director.
