Job Summary:
Ensures resolution of routine problems pertaining to department activities. Provides consultative expertise related to health information compliance. Meets organizational objectives and standards toward provision of quality care to Health Plan members in accordance with accrediting and governing agency standards. Collaborates with appropriate departments to ensure transfer of information. Collaborates with departments and physicians on mutual goals and objectives in HIM coding and documentation. Supervises assigned staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Manages, coordinates and provides leadership to the HIM supervisor and staff. • Ensures projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules. • Reviews department performance.
Ensuring Compliance:
Ensures compliance with Health Information Management requirements mandated by The Joint Commission (TJC), (National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), Title 22, Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS), federal and state laws and regulations, medical staff by-laws, and regional and local policies and procedures.
Managing Data Integrity:
Manages all areas of data integrity which include: • HIM Technicians • MinRec Clerks • Transcription • Systems and Admin Assistant • Inpatient Medical Records Clerks
Providing Financial and Utilization Data:
Provides financial and utilization data to Director or designee for payroll and non-payroll budget process.
Supervising and Monitoring:
Monitors and supervises Transcription, Inpatient Medical Records Clerks, and Systems and Admin. Assistant and HIM Technicians.
Preparing Reports and Implementing Improvements:
Prepares routine and interim reports to medical staff and executive. Implements appropriate revisions to quality of work improvements, using current performance improvement methodologies.
Representing the Department:
Represents department in inter-department activities. Resolves identified problems with appropriate disciplines in absence of department Director or designee.
Monitoring Operational Issues:
Monitors time completion standards for all discharges. Reports medical record documentation incidents to appropriate inter-disciplines. Recommends, coordinates and implements corrective action, as appropriate.
Collaborating with Other Departments:
Corroborates with patient accounting services, business services and information systems for regional requirements of patient information and service outcomes.
Evaluating and Recommending Education:
Evaluates and recommends education/training for technical and clerical staff. Facilitates all areas of data integrity and general staff meetings.
Developing and Implementing Policies:
Develops and implements new and revised policies/procedure specific to department functions. Ensures compliance in area(s) of accountability.
Maintaining Knowledge and Ensuring Compliance:
Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures. Ensures staff compliance. Reports and/or resolves issues of non-compliance.
Staff Management:
Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate. Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities and authority parameters to assigned staff.
