Health Informatics Specialist III (Level 2A Fully Remote)

Job Summary

The Health Informatics Specialist III is an experienced informatics nurse and internal consultant who partners with Clinical, Business, and Digital & Technology Services (DTS) teams to support the successful design, implementation, adoption, and interoperability of clinical and non-clinical information systems across the Client enterprise.

The Health Informatics Specialist III is directly engaged in enterprise, capital, and operational projects. Utilizing process improvement and change management techniques, this role is responsible for identifying and implementing improvement opportunities aimed at reducing harm and risk, improving workflows and care delivery, and evaluating the effectiveness of integrated technologies.

The consultant should not become the only person who understands virtual care. Responsibilities include:

Key Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Serve as a liaison between Digital & Technology Services and nursing, providers, allied health, and non-clinical end users.
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with clinical and operational leadership.
  • Analyze clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services to determine applicability to nursing and clinical practice, operational processes, administration, and research.
  • Demonstrate excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Lead unit-level core and sub-teams for operational and implementation work.
  • Consult with individuals and groups in defining healthcare information problems; identify methods for implementing, utilizing, and modifying DTS solutions and data structures to support healthcare access, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Work collaboratively with enterprise-wide governance and/or unit-level Nursing Shared Governance.
  • Identify the impact of clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services on clinical practice, education, business processes, and research.
  • Communicate with key stakeholders, sponsors, and internal customers through presentations, project updates, and information gathering related to enterprise and operational initiatives.
  • Serve as a preceptor for graduate informatics students.
  • Partner on clinical communications and provide guidance regarding clinical workflow processes during downtime events and EHR reconciliation activities.

Change & Quality Management

  • Demonstrate knowledge of system life cycles and comply with established frameworks for implementing, reviewing, approving, and disseminating changes to clinical and non-clinical Digital & Technology Services.
  • Operationalize change using quality methodologies to standardize processes in accordance with current evidence, quality initiatives, regulatory requirements, and billing compliance.
  • Develop risk-benefit analyses of alternative solutions to support clinical decision-making.
  • Recognize the impact of change on clinical and non-clinical systems and partner with education and communications teams to ensure adoption.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to identify problems and document current-state and future-state workflows.
  • Assist with project and operational testing activities.
  • Perform gap analyses and work with stakeholders to identify solutions that address gaps and mitigate risks.

Process Improvement

  • Serve as a project consultant in the design and implementation of complex Digital & Technology Services process improvement initiatives.
  • Work with internal customers to:
    • Review and document current-state workflows
    • Document future-state requirements
    • Create workflow recommendations
    • Analyze gaps between current and future states and software capabilities
    • Collaborate with other Epic modules to ensure workflow integration points are addressed
    • Liaise between Systems Analysts (SAs) and clinical/business teams
    • Track project progress and deliverables
  • Demonstrate an understanding of data and data quality standards.
  • Support the integration of data, information, and knowledge into decision support and business intelligence tools, including data warehousing initiatives.
  • Develop auditing and review processes to ensure project goals and deliverables are achieved.
  • Participate in Epic vendor visits and follow-up activities.

Research & Education

  • Support nursing research and assist clinical nurses in applying research and evidence-based practices.
  • Assist with the development of training materials and provide ongoing support for clinical Digital & Technology Services.
  • Participate in scholarly activities, including:
    • Writing for publication
    • Delivering lectures
    • Presenting abstracts or posters at national conferences

  • Minimum five (5) years of nursing, clinical, or operational experience
