Overview
Under the direction of the physicians and clinical staff, the Health Care Assistant supports the assigned unit by providing technical patient care services and support related to patients on the nursing unit. Additionally, assists staff, physicians, visitors, and ancillary departments with routine patient care activities and clerical support as needed.
Patient Care Activities
• Vital signs • Activities of daily living • Transport • Transfer of patients to include discharge
Clerical Support
• Directing incoming calls and responding to patient calls • Entering patient charges in the computer system • Maintaining patient charts, unit files, and secretarial supply levels • Being responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly environment
Qualifications
Education Required: High School Diploma or GED
Education Preferred: Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Huntsville Hospital Health Care Assistant course
License, Certification, and/or Registration: BCLS is required by the conclusion of orientation
Experience: Requires previous patient care and/or two years of clerical experience with successful work history
Comparable Combinations of Education and Experience: Comparable combinations of education and experience in both clerical positions as well as patient care aide positions will be considered.
Additional Skills/Abilities: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
