Position Summary
The Head Middle School Wrestling Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive and educational wrestling program that promotes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. The coach will create a positive and inclusive environment that supports student-athletes both on and off the mat while aligning with the school''s mission, athletic department expectations, and district policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that emphasize fundamental wrestling techniques, conditioning, and sportsmanship.
- Develop practice plans that are age-appropriate, engaging, and focused on athlete development.
- Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities.
- Foster a positive team culture built on respect, accountability, and integrity.
- Teach and reinforce good sportsmanship, character, and leadership.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes by following established safety protocols.
- Maintain communication with athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic department staff.
- Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and encourage academic success.
- Coordinate equipment inventory, care, and distribution.
- Assist with scheduling competitions and coordinating travel as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with all school, district, conference, and state athletic association rules and regulations.
- Attend required coaches'' meetings, professional development sessions, and athletic department events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or school administration.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma required; associate''s or bachelor''s degree preferred.
- Previous wrestling coaching and/or competitive wrestling experience.
- Knowledge of wrestling rules, techniques, training methods, and athlete development.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and concussion certification (or willingness to obtain before the season begins).
- Successful completion of all required background checks and district hiring requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience coaching middle school or high school wrestling.
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting.
- Demonstrated ability to build a positive and inclusive team culture.
