About the Role
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Chief of Talent Strategy to lead its attorney recruiting and talent management function. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving firmwide hiring strategy, building high-performing teams, and partnering closely with firm leadership to support continued growth.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of attorney talent, working across practice groups to attract, develop, and retain top legal professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute firmwide attorney recruiting strategy across multiple offices and practice areas
Oversee full-cycle attorney hiring (sourcing, interviews, offers, onboarding)
Partner with Practice Group Leaders to identify current and future hiring needs
Build and leverage a strong network within the legal industry to attract top talent
Manage and enhance law school recruiting and industry partnerships
Monitor market trends, compensation, and competitor hiring activity to stay competitive
Support attorney development, retention, and succession planning initiatives
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred
8+ years of experience in legal recruiting, attorney development, or talent management
Strong understanding of law firm structure, economics, and career progression
Proven success recruiting attorneys across multiple practice areas
Established network within the legal community, particularly in Chicago
Experience working with law firm leadership and Practice Group Leaders
Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
Preferred
Experience in a mid-sized or large law firm environment
Experience managing summer associate or law school recruiting programs
Experience developing attorney training or leadership programs
Familiarity with performance management and succession planning
SHRM, HRCI, or related certifications are a plus
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $200,000 - $250,000 (commensurate with experience)
