About the Role

A nationally recognized law firm is seeking a Chief of Talent Strategy to lead its attorney recruiting and talent management function. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving firmwide hiring strategy, building high-performing teams, and partnering closely with firm leadership to support continued growth.

This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of attorney talent, working across practice groups to attract, develop, and retain top legal professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute firmwide attorney recruiting strategy across multiple offices and practice areas

  • Oversee full-cycle attorney hiring (sourcing, interviews, offers, onboarding)

  • Partner with Practice Group Leaders to identify current and future hiring needs

  • Build and leverage a strong network within the legal industry to attract top talent

  • Manage and enhance law school recruiting and industry partnerships

  • Monitor market trends, compensation, and competitor hiring activity to stay competitive

  • Support attorney development, retention, and succession planning initiatives

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • 8+ years of experience in legal recruiting, attorney development, or talent management

  • Strong understanding of law firm structure, economics, and career progression

  • Proven success recruiting attorneys across multiple practice areas

  • Established network within the legal community, particularly in Chicago

  • Experience working with law firm leadership and Practice Group Leaders

  • Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion

Preferred

  • Experience in a mid-sized or large law firm environment

  • Experience managing summer associate or law school recruiting programs

  • Experience developing attorney training or leadership programs

  • Familiarity with performance management and succession planning

  • SHRM, HRCI, or related certifications are a plus

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary: $200,000 - $250,000 (commensurate with experience)
