The Head of Engineering is a highly visible and strategic leadership position responsible for overseeing all site engineering activities, including maintenance, facilities management, capital projects, automation, and environmental health and safety (EHS). This individual will play a key role in site expansion, equipment optimization, facility planning, and operational excellence while ensuring compliance with all applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Provide leadership and direction for the Engineering, Maintenance, Facilities, Automation, and EHS functions.
Develop and execute engineering strategies that support site growth, operational performance, and long-term business objectives.
Own and manage the site's capital investment program, including budgeting, prioritization, and execution of capital projects.
Maintain and develop a highly capable engineering organization equipped to support manufacturing operations and future expansion.
Lead facility planning initiatives and maintain a long-range facility master plan to support business growth.
Identify operational risks and improvement opportunities, proactively implementing solutions to enhance performance and reliability.
Utilize data and analytics to support strategic decision-making and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure engineering operations remain aligned with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and environmental, health, and safety expectations.
Develop and implement programs that drive engineering excellence, asset reliability, and maintenance effectiveness.
Support the successful installation, commissioning, qualification, and lifecycle management of manufacturing and facility assets.
Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, and other business functions to support organizational goals.
Champion a culture of safety, compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the site.
Recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent to support current and future business needs.
Ensure automation and control systems are maintained and enhanced to meet evolving operational requirements.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of engineering leadership experience within pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
Strong experience in maintenance, facilities, capital projects, and validation activities.
Significant experience supporting oral solid dose (OSD) manufacturing operations; exposure to additional dosage forms is beneficial.
Proven track record leading large-scale capital and engineering projects.
Experience implementing maintenance excellence programs such as reliability-centered maintenance, preventive maintenance optimization, and asset care initiatives.
Demonstrated experience managing capital and operating budgets.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to leverage data for strategic decision-making.
Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Professional Engineering (PE) certification or equivalent engineering credential.
Experience within a contract manufacturing or pharmaceutical services environment.
Broad knowledge of manufacturing automation, facility systems, and engineering compliance requirements.
