Job Summary

The Head Mens Golf Coach is responsible for the leadership, administration, and overall success of the Columbus State University Mens Golf program. This position provides strategic direction for all aspects of the program, including recruiting, coaching, student-athlete development, scheduling, budgeting, fundraising, alumni engagement, and NCAA compliance. The Head Mens Golf Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and works collaboratively with athletics staff, university partners, and the golf facility to provide a first-class experience for student-athletes while advancing the mission of Columbus State Athletics.

Responsibilities

Significant Duties and Responsibilities include:

Golf Program Management

  • Oversee all aspects of the Mens Golf program, including practice planning, competition scheduling, team travel, equipment, academic success, and daily operations.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and other program personnel, as assigned.
  • Foter a culture of integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
  • Ensure student-athlete health, safety, and wellbeing.
  • Coordinate practice and competition schedules with golf course personnel and athletics administration

Recruitment and Development

  • Lead recruitment efforts for the universitys golf team, identifying and evaluating prospective student-athletes.
  • Develop training schedules and competitive strategies for the team.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes to ensure compliance with NCAA and university standards.
  • Develop and manage golf camps, clinics, and other programs for student-athletes and the local community.

Event Coordination

  • Organize and oversee university golf events such as tournaments, matches, and fundraising activities.
  • Manage logistics, including event planning, scheduling, budget oversight, and staffing for tournaments.

Budget and Financial Oversight

  • Develop, manage, and monitor budgets for golf programs and facilities.
  • Identify opportunities to generate revenue, such as through memberships, event fees, and sponsorships.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and stay within allocated budgets.

Administrative Leadership

  • Collaborate with university leadership, the athletic department, and other staff on strategic initiatives and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA or other governing body regulations and university policies.
  • Maintain records, reports, and relevant documentation for the golf program.

Community Engagement and Outreach

  • Foster relationships with alumni, donors, and community members to support the growth and sustainability of golf programs.
  • Develop and execute fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the athletic department and university advancement.
  • Represent the university at events and conferences related to collegiate golf and athletics.
  • Identify sponsorship and donor opportunities to enhance scholarships, travel, and facility upgrades.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Work with the university¿s communications or marketing team to promote the golf program.
  • Develop strategies for increasing visibility of the golf team and the golf facility on campus and within the community.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications include: Bachelors degree required (preferred in Sports Management, Recreation, Business Administration, or related field).; Proven experience in golf coaching or related field particularly within a university setting.; At least 1-3 years of experience in relevant positions.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications include: A Masters degree may be preferred.

Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $60,000 - 65,000 and includes full benefits.

An exciting opportunity for a Director of Golf Operations exists within this position, with a salary commensurate to the candidates education and related experience that exceeds the minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities include: Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.; Experience with budgeting, event planning, and fundraising is important.; Knowledge of NCAA rules (if applicable), golf course management practices, and collegiate athletic programs.; Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate team schedules, events, and other activities.; Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.; Passion for collegiate athletics and the development of student-athletes.
