Position Title: Head Football Coach
Department: Athletics
Reports To: Director of Athletics

General Function (Description):
The Head Football Coach reports directly to the Director of Athletics and is responsible for coaching the varsity football team and managing all aspects of a highly successful football program. Responsibilities include the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of academically qualified and athletically gifted student-athletes; development of practice plans, game strategies, and competitive schedules; management of the football operating budget; support of fundraising efforts for the program and athletic department; oversight of compliance, 'life skills,' discipline, and other personal matters of the student-athletes and staff; and supervision, development, and evaluation of assistant coaches.
The position will attend all Athletic Department meetings and other relevant events and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee all aspects of the program including coaching, recruiting, monitoring academic progress and retention, promoting, grant-in-aid recommendations, scheduling, requisitioning equipment, supervising assistants, etc. • Controls and supervises squad members throughout the school year and maintains compliance with University, conference (SIAC), and national (NCAA) rules and regulations. • Must be thoroughly familiar with and comply with the University, SIAC, and NCAA policies. • Must exhibit a high level of expertise in the professional field of football. • Must encourage student-athletes to succeed academically and graduate - this is a matter of highest priority. • Must represent the University on the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character. • Establish a strong and sincere commitment to alumni correspondence, promotion of the program, and community relations. • Continually identifies sport-specific strengths and weaknesses, while implementing a plan of action that consistently demonstrates improvement. • Demonstrate a philosophy that emphasizes academic priorities for student-athletes. • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan for the identification and recruitment of gifted student-athletes. • Commit to implementing 'Life Skills' programs to team members. • Develop and implement plans and strategies for practices and competition. • Plan and manage the football operating budget. • Supervise, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches. • Supervise, develop, and evaluate student-athletes. • Ability to lead and influence other to perform their jobs effectively and to be responsible for making decisions. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and NCAA Compliance Assistant Software • Demonstrated experience in sports administration. • Strong commitment to the student-athlete and maintain high standards and values. • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and commitment to integrity. • Demonstrate good communication skills and an ability to respond to the general public concerning the program.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
• Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master's preferred. • Years of Experience: 5 Years on Division I or Division II levels. • Years of Management/Supervisor Experience: 3-5 years or equivalent.
