Hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm M-F
The Head Custodian is responsible to the Operations Supervisor and the Building Administrator
for supervising and directing the building custodial staff regarding all functions associated
with custodial operations. Individual work area assignments may not be given, but rather a team
cleaning approach may be used throughout the building.
1.High School Diploma or GED.
2.Possess an FOE 2 Class Facility Operating Engineer License.
3.Successful completion of appropriate WCCTS (Wisconsin City and County Testing Service) exam.
4.Successful applicant must pass, and continue to pass, the medical examination required for the
wearing respiratory equipment.
5.Successful completion of hazardous materials seminars/courses and/or other safety related
courses as required.
EXPERIENCE:
1.Have a minimum of one year experience as a Head Custodian, or Assistant Head Custodian or have
successfully completed the Relief Head Custodian Program.
2.Must have a past record of successful and significant experience in lead person procedures and
techniques.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions; Must be knowledgeable and proficient in
performing routine and minor maintenance for boilers, furnaces, air handling units, and swimming
pools as appropriate; Must be able to replace ballasts, change faucets/ washers, adjust flush
valves, replace toilet seats, replace floor tile, repair/replace glass, unplug drains, and
perform other related minor maintenance tasks; Must be able to operate and perform routine
maintenance for custodial equipment such as scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, custodial carts, and
lawn mowers; Must be knowledgeable and proficient in operating and training others in the use of
scrubbing machines, snow removal and lawn mowing equipment, and other related custodial
equipment; Must be able to perform and train others to clean and maintain all building and
grounds areas and properly use cleaning materials and supplies; Must be in good physical
condition and capable of working from a stepladder or scaffolding, performing heavy lifting (75
pounds without assistance), and shoveling snow; Must be able to develop and maintain harmonious
working relationships.
Special Conditions
Employees shall at all times use the appropriate provided respiratory and other safety equipment, in accordance with instructions and training received.
The District's usual and customary respirators do require an employee to be clean shaven when using them. If your religion requires you to wear facial hair, the District will pay for the cost of an alternative respirator to accommodate this.
If the employee requires special glasses to be fitted into the respiratory equipment, the District will pay for the cost of the glasses (the cost of the vision exam for the glasses prescription will be the employee's responsibility).
