St. Petersburg Catholic High School is seeking a highly motivated and committed Head Wrestling Coach to lead and develop our wrestling program. The Head Coach will be responsible for building a strong team culture, developing student-athletes on and off the mat, and representing St. Petersburg Catholic High School with professionalism, integrity, and pride.
Position Overview
The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the wrestling program, including practices, competitions, athlete development, team culture, communication, and program growth. This position requires a coach who is organized, dependable, knowledgeable of the sport, and committed to creating a positive experience for student-athletes.
Responsibilities
The Head Wrestling Coach will:
- Develop and lead a competitive wrestling program aligned with the mission and values of St. Petersburg Catholic High School.
- Plan, organize, and conduct effective practices that focus on skill development, conditioning, technique, safety, and team preparation.
- Teach proper wrestling fundamentals, match strategy, sportsmanship, discipline, and accountability.
- Create a positive team culture that emphasizes hard work, respect, commitment, and personal growth.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, matches, tournaments, team events, and travel.
- Schedule competitions, tournaments, and practices in coordination with the Athletic Director.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and the Athletic Department.
- Monitor student-athlete academic performance, attendance, behavior, and eligibility.
- Use Home Campus to check and confirm student-athlete athletic clearances before allowing participation.
- Ensure all athletes have completed required athletic clearance paperwork before practices, workouts, matches, or tournaments.
- Use TrackWrestling for tournament registration, roster management, weigh-ins, results, and other wrestling-related administrative needs.
- Maintain accurate rosters, schedules, results, and team information.
- Oversee equipment, uniforms, practice space, and inventory.
- Help promote the wrestling program within the school and surrounding community.
- Build interest in the program through offseason workouts, open mats, clinics, and student recruitment within the school.
- Work to grow participation numbers and develop a strong foundation for long-term success.
- Ensure compliance with all St. Petersburg Catholic High School, Diocese, and FHSAA policies and procedures.
- Attend required athletic department meetings, coaching meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Represent St. Petersburg Catholic High School in a professional and positive manner at all times.
Qualifications
Preferred candidates should have:
- Previous wrestling coaching experience at the high school, club, or competitive level.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, technique, conditioning, and match strategy.
- Experience using Home Campus to review and verify student-athlete athletic clearances.
- Experience using TrackWrestling for rosters, tournament entries, weigh-ins, and results.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop student-athletes of varying skill levels.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A commitment to student-athlete development, both athletically and personally.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletic Director, school administration, parents, and other coaches.
- Prior head coaching experience preferred, but not required.
- Must complete all required background checks, fingerprinting, Diocese requirements, and coaching certifications prior to working with student-athletes.
