Position Summary

Concordia University invites applicants for the full-time, exempt position of Head Track and Field Coach & Associate Head Cross Country Coach at the CUW Mequon, WI campus. This position will work under the Director of Cross Country & Track and Field and will help assist with daily duties of what the sport requires. The candidate must be available Monday-Saturday, as they assist the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field with all facets of Concordia's NCAA Men's and Women's Track and Field Programs. This position reports to the Director of Cross Country & Track and Field and the Director of Athletics at the Mequon, WI campus. The hours of work and days will vary upon athletic practices and competition schedule.


Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coaching duties as assigned by the Director of Cross Country & Track and Field.
  • This position is for someone with a strong background in coaching Sprints and relays; coaching or understanding of the pole vault is a plus
  • Recruiting Coordinator: Maintaining Front rush database, recruiting prospective student athletes, utilizing recruiting databases and all other forms, coordinating visits, maintaining applicant lists, and establishing relationships
  • Performing administrative and organizational aspects of running a track and field program to include but not limited to securing buses, hotels, meet information, meal destinations, meet food, track kit equipment, budget administration, national meet requirements, end of season duties include update record board, student-athlete meetings, banquet, scheduling practice and end of season awards
  • Developing season meet schedule with the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field and track & Field staff.
  • Monitoring athlete eligibility
  • Fundraising: E – Team Sponsor and help in any other fundraising activities
  • Maintaining track and field program equipment inventory
  • Identifying potential needs of the track and field program and outlining solutions by forming practical conclusions
  • Identifying the developmental needs of athletes through coaching, mentoring or otherwise helping individuals improve their knowledge or skills and academic success
  • Responsible for training input and help with the implementation of workouts for athletes in track & field
  • Attending department and staff meetings
  • Adhering to all NACC and NCAA rules
  • Advisor to Track & Field Captains
  • Helping with program social media such as posting team highlights, results, stories, vlog and promotions
  • May perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NACC and NCAA rules and regulations
  • A strong knowledge of sprinting and relay technique, training design and implementation along with some knowledge of other track & field events; pole vault a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a track & field team with a diverse social and economic background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to perform physical activities that require the use of arms and legs and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping and handling of materials
  • Must be willing to travel and work evenings and weekends
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Education & Experience

  • Experience with sprinting and relays at the college level with track & field highly desirable
  • At minimum of a Bachelor's degree with a Master's degree preferred in a related field and track and field coaching certifications preferred
