JOB DESCRIPTION: The selected candidate will help ensure the program operates and conducts itself within the ideals, goals, rules, and regulations set forth by Newberry College, the South Atlantic Conference, and the NCA (National Cheerleading Association).
The position reports to the Director of Athletics. The selected candidate provides leadership, organization, supervision, instruction, and strategic planning for the Wolves Cheerleading program.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Understand and meet recruiting and retention goals set forth by Newberry administration of quality students who meet admissions standards.
- Foster an environment of academic success and personal development.
- Ability to coach female, and possibly coed, stunting skills in proper techniques of tumbling and jumping to ensure safety and compliance with NCA regulations.
- Choreograph squad routines for all home Football and Basketball games, Competitions, and designated special events to enhance the fan experience and promote school spirit.
- Develop enhanced mascot program with specific recruiting of students for the role and coordinate corresponding routines for events and competitions.
- Supervising part-time and/or volunteer assistant coaches.
- Effectively manage an operating budget.
- Fundraise for additional program needs and offset expenses.
- Order and maintain all uniforms and equipment and oversee proper storage as well maintain proper inventory.
- Coordinate and manage appearance requests for Cheer squad on campus, in the local community, and/or regional and national events.
- Coordinate and meet community service hour goals and activities.
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics or Sport Administrator.
EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION
The selected candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree. Previous collegiate or demonstrated successful high school cheerleading coaching experience preferred. Experience in fundraising, community relations, and mascot training are also preferred.
