THE POSITION

A Head Camp Counselor serves as administrative leader responsible for supervising counselors and CITs, ensuring camper safety, managing behavior, and facilitating activities. They act as a liaison between staff and camp directors, often handling logistics, parent communication, and staff training to ensure a positive camp experience.

Position Summary

Responsibilities:

  • Staff leadership and supervision
  • Program implementation.
  • Administrative duties.
  • Staff training and support.
  • Be responsible in assisting counselors with disciplinary issues when needed. Model and enforce appropriate positive discipline techniques as established by the policies of the Center for Excellence
  • Responsible to communicate with parents when needed.
  • Become knowledgeable in camp information and procedures.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for campers and staff
  • Works with the Site Director to secure substitutes in the event of illness or other emergencies.

Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communication with all levels including staff and parents.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions that adhere to the purpose, mission and goals of the Chaminade Center for Excellence.
  • Ability to relate to children and develop professional, positive relationships with youth.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as a role model and take initiative to identify potential risk factors and take measures to reduce them.

Salary

This is a nonexempt position and the base hourly wage range will be $25.00 per hour.
