The Head Middle School Boys Soccer Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the boys soccer program at Lexington Middle School. The coach will foster a positive, student-centered environment that emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, character, and academic success while promoting the mission and values of the school and athletic department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and conduct daily practices that focus on individual skill development, team strategy, and physical conditioning.
- Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team events.
- Develop a competitive soccer program that promotes participation, growth, and enjoyment of the sport.
- Teach and model good sportsmanship, respect, discipline, leadership, and teamwork.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all student-athletes by following appropriate training methods and safety protocols.
- Maintain knowledge of and comply with all school, district, conference, and state athletic association policies and regulations.
- Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administrators, faculty, and athletic department personnel.
- Monitor student-athlete academic performance and encourage academic achievement.
- Coordinate equipment inventory, maintenance, and uniform distribution and collection.
- Assist with scheduling games, transportation needs, and other team logistics as directed by the athletic director.
- Supervise assistant coaches and volunteer coaches, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Attend coaches'' meetings, professional development opportunities, and required district training.
- Promote positive relationships within the school and community while serving as a positive role model for student-athletes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
Qualifications
- Previous coaching experience in soccer, preferably at the middle school or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategy, player development, and game management.
- Ability to motivate and mentor middle school student-athletes.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student development, sportsmanship, and ethical coaching practices.
- Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends during the season.
Required Certifications
- Valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or ability to obtain prior to the season).
- Completion of all required district coaching certifications and background checks.
- Concussion awareness and heat illness prevention training, as required by district and state regulations.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate soccer skills during practices and competitions.
- Ability to lift and carry athletic equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
