Key Responsibilities

  • Crew Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor drill operators, locators, and laborers. Coordinate daily workflow and assign tasks to maximize productivity.
  • Job Planning & Setup: Review bore plans, project layouts, and utility maps. Ensure all underground utilities are properly located, exposed (potholed), and accounted for before drilling commences.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate HDD rigs, mud mixing systems, vacuum trucks, and locating equipment (e.g., DCI, Subsite, Falcon F5).
  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct daily jobsite safety meetings. Enforce strict compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental policies, and company safety protocols.
  • Quality Control & Documentation: Maintain bore path accuracy, proper drilling fluid management, and pullback procedures. Track daily production, verify as-built data, and submit bore logs.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact on-site. Coordinate with project managers, utility inspectors, and property owners.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure crews perform pre/post-trip inspections and routine maintenance (greasing, fluid checks, minor repairs) on all vehicles and machinery.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2+ years of experience in HDD operations, utility locating, and heavy equipment operation. Previous crew leadership or foreman experience is highly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proven ability to read utility prints, interpret bore plans, and operate electronic locating equipment.
  • Licensing: Valid driver"s license with a clean driving record required. Class A CDL is preferred.
  • Physical & Environmental Demands: Ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, noise, vibrations).
  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bismarck, ND.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $50.00/hr.
