About the job

Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

As a Hardware System Integration and Test Technician, you will be responsible for assembling, integrating, and testing quantum computing systems. You will ensure the functionality and performance of hardware and Radio Frequency (RF) components by performing hardware installations to defined configurations, and running defined tests to perform system verification. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive electrical tests, diagnosing and resolving issues, and maintaining accurate records. This position demands a keen eye for detail, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to interpret technical documentation to support the development and deployment of advanced electronic and cryogenic systems.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $99,000-$140,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, and integrate electronic hardware, modules, and circuit boards into quantum computing systems according to technical drawings, schematics, and build procedures.
  • Calibrate, test, and adjust electronic instruments and systems, including continuity checks and signal path verification, to ensure integrity and meet performance specifications.
  • Utilize various electronic test equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal generators) to diagnose and troubleshoot issues while interpreting technical documentation and assembly instructions.
  • Maintain accurate records of configurations, tests, and calibrations performed throughout the assembly and testing process.
  • Collaborate with engineering and other technical teams to support the overall development, testing, and deployment of systems.
