Roles & Responsibilities

Role Overview
The HITL Design & Maintenance Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the development and ongoing maintenance of real-time simulation environments intended for validating control software within power electronic systems. The primary focus of this position is on systems that utilize Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), Silicon Controlled Rectifiers (SCRs), and the latest Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies, particularly in inverter and converter applications. Alongside designing Hardware-In-Loop systems, the engineer is tasked with testing and validating inverter controller software, ensuring that all deliverables meet robust performance standards and comply with specified system requirements

Architect and maintain HIL systems to support validation of embedded controllers.
Develop plant models using MATLAB/Simulink that accurately represent various power converter topologies.
Integrate developed models with real-time simulation platforms such as Opal-RT, Speedgoat, or dSPACE.
Ensure reliable hardware interfaces, including implementation of signal conditioning and mapping of input/output signals.
Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure HIL setups are aligned with control and software requirements.
Diagnose and resolve issues related to real-time execution and the fidelity of simulation models.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations and update procedures as needed.
Design and execute detailed test plans for inverter controller software, leveraging HIL platforms for thorough validation.
Analyze test results and provide support for debugging control algorithms and embedded code.
Ensure complete traceability between software requirements and HIL test coverage.

REQUIRED:

Hardware-In-Test-Loop (HITL) Platform: Provide resources to design, develop, procure, integrate, and maintain a HITL platform for validation of Drives Control software for Inverter, DAB, AFE, DC-DC, and AC-AC converter applications. The platform shall simulate plant behavior in real time and interface with Wabtec controllers through the necessary I/O and communication interfaces to support development, testing, and verification activities. Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
Hardware Specification & Procurement: Define, source, procure, and manage HITL hardware, interfaces, networking equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
System Architecture & Design: Define HITL architecture, real-time simulation framework, hardware interfaces, communication networks, and test infrastructure.
Model & Software Development: Develop and validate real-time plant models, test environments, automation scripts, and supporting software.
System Integration: Integrate hardware, software, controller interfaces, and test automation into a complete HITL platform.
Verification & Validation: Verify model fidelity, platform performance, interface functionality, and application-specific test scenarios.
Deployment & Knowledge Transfer: Install, commission, document, and provide training for engineering teams on uses of HITL.
Maintenance & Sustaining Support: Provide platform maintenance, upgrades, bug fixes, model enhancements, and technical support.

Drives Control Development: Provide Drives Control engineering resources responsible for the development, verification, and validation of control software for power converter applications. The engineer shall use MATLAB Simulink, Stateflow, C/C++ programming for development of control and the HITL platform to perform software integration, testing, debugging, performance evaluation, and release support activities. Also able to go on locomotive and Off Highway Vehicles and High voltage laboratories for testing. Responsibilities includes but not limited to:
Development of controller obsolescence specifications and migration requirements for transition from legacy drives control controllers to new controller platforms.
Development of validation plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria to verify functional, performance, and interface equivalence of migrated controller solutions.
Collaboration with Electronics Hardware, Firmware, and BSP teams to ensure original controller functionality, performance, interfaces, and application software behavior are maintained for AC-AC Cycloconverter, AC-DC, DC-DC and auxiliary motor inverter applications.
Requirements analysis, architecture, and drives control software design.
Integration and merging of existing drives control feature implementations into standard software baselines.
Full-cycle development of new or enhanced drives control features from detailed design through implementation and validation
Software integration and commissioning on Wabtec controller platforms.
