JOB TITLE: HALF-TIME (.5) COUNSELOR
JOB SUMMARY: Serves as the center of the guidance effort of the school and is the person through whom all pertinent information regarding the student is channeled.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (May include but not be limited to):
- Using the Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Model, assist in developing a student's academic and social abilities in order to make positive career choices, course selections, and personal decisions.
- Assumes the leadership and responsibility for implementing the Comprehensive Guidance Model.
- Responsible for group and individual guidance procedures associated with proper student placement.
- Involvement with group and individual counseling to keep the student in good standing in all classes.
- Serves as a source of information for the student with respect to the school, home and community.
- Administers and interprets tests within the testing program.
- Collects and disseminates to students and parents information concerning school offerings, opportunities for further education, and careers and career training opportunities.
- Assists in the collection and maintenance of pertinent pupil data.
- Assists with student attendance.
- Assists in establishing and coordinating student-teacher-counselor-parent-conferences and classroom activities.
- Provides guidance to students with academic and/or vocational problems.
- Counsels students regarding school-related and personal problems.
- Provides identification and referral service for students having emotional, health, and/or learning problems which are beyond the resources of the local school.
- Assists in the development and changing of curriculum to meet the needs of the student body.
- Responsible for child study referral process.
- Ability to keep matters confidential.
- Responsible for personalizing the educational process.
- Responsible for maintaining positive public relations.
- Act as a liaison between school community and parents.
- Assists administration in the development of the master schedules
- Responsible for enrollment and scheduling of new students.
- Responsible for maintaining CA60.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Other duties assigned by administration when needed.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Michigan credential or School Guidance Counselor license, including all courses to meet credential requirements.
- Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling preferred.
- 5 years teaching experience desirable.
- Ability to communicate effectively with teachers and administrators and work successfully with teams and departments.
- Above-average recommendations from student teaching supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
