Cooperidge Consulting Firm is seeking a Health & Safety (H&S) Coordinator for a high-growth manufacturing facility in Ashland, VA.

This is an essential leadership role designed for a safety professional who thrives in a complex, Unionized manufacturing environment. You will serve as the primary architect of the plant’s safety culture, leading comprehensive risk analyses, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance audits. We are looking for an expert who doesn't just monitor safety but proactively teaches risk management strategies at every level of the organization—from the shop floor to senior management. This is an ideal opportunity for a coordinator ready to exercise full autonomy in a fast-paced plant setting while maintaining world-class OSHA standards.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strategic Risk Management: Lead high-level risk analyses and safety audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards before they impact operations.
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure the facility remains in total compliance with OSHA, state, and local safety regulations.
  • Incident Management: Direct all incident investigations, coordinate immediate corrective actions, and track long-term preventative measures.
  • Program Development: Design and oversee advanced H&S training programs tailored for both frontline employees and management teams.
  • PPE & Equipment Oversight: Supervise the procurement, training, and consistent use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the plant.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Maintain and periodically test site-wide emergency plans and response protocols.
  • H&S Project Management: Manage specialized H&S capital projects and prepare detailed performance reports for the executive leadership team.
  • Culture Leadership: Act as a safety mentor, teaching proactive risk management strategies and fostering a culture of accountability across the organization.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in occupational health and safety specifically within the manufacturing industry is REQUIRED.
  • Union Experience: Must have a proven track record of working successfully within a Unionized manufacturing plant.
  • Audit Mastery: Advanced expertise in conducting formal risk analyses and safety audits.

Technical Skills

  • Regulatory Expertise: Deep understanding of OSHA guidelines and applicable Virginia state/local safety statutes.
  • Program Supervision: Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy health and safety programs that drive measurable results.
  • Incident Resolution: Expert-level skills in incident management and the implementation of robust corrective measures.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage H&S-related projects, including budgeting and timeline oversight.

Soft Skills
