Summary

University of Vermont Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Gynecologic Oncology Division at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC). This full-time Advanced Practice Professional (APP) role supports a comprehensive gynecologic surgical oncology service caring for patients with both benign and malignant conditions within an academic medical center committed to clinical excellence, education, research, and community partnership. APPs are integrated members of the care team and participate in teaching, scholarly activity, and continuous improvement initiatives that advance the field of gynecologic oncology.

Responsibilities

• Patient Population: Women requiring gynecologic surgical and medical oncology services. • Operating Room: Serves as Surgical First Assist for gynecologic oncology cases and provides laparoscopic and robotic support as indicated. • Inpatient: Independent and team-based perioperative rounding on acute care surgical patients, managing postoperative wounds and pain, collaborating in a timely manner with consulting services, coordinating hospital discharges, evaluating new inpatient consults, and supporting the operating room. • Outpatient: Evaluates new and established patients in collaboration with attending physicians, participates in multidisciplinary care, completes outpatient documentation in a timely manner, performs clinic procedures as appropriate, and manages the surgical and medical oncology chemotherapy treatment plan needs of gynecologic oncology patients across the full continuum of care. Incorporates the thoughtful use of emerging AI technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy within the electronic medical record and other clinical tools, supporting a modern data-informed approach to patient care and workflow optimization.

Additional Responsibilities

• Supports education of medical students and OBGYN residents while in clinic and on the inpatient service. • As UVM Health grows its APP workforce, we are always evaluating the clinical needs across our care delivery system. There may be responsibilities in other network locations in the future.

This is a full-time 1.0 FTE exempt position with UVM Medical Center. Work schedule is primarily 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday. Occasional adjustments to this schedule may be made to accommodate earlier starts based on OR support needs or weekend cases.

Experience

• 2 years of clinical PANP experience preferred. • Oncology and/or chemotherapy treatment experience desired. • Surgical experience required. • Surgical First Assist and robotic surgery experience a plus.

New PANP graduates with substantial prior direct patient care in oncology and chemotherapy who demonstrate a dedicated interest or knowledge of gynecologic surgical oncology may be considered.

Education & Licensure

• Masters degree required. • Current or eligible certification to practice as an APRN from the VT State Board of Nursing or as a PA from the VT State Board of Medical Practice. • Successful completion of an APRN or PA educational program recognized by the State of Vermont. • PA Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program prior to January 2001 - Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. • Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required. • NP Completion of a masters post-masters or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). • Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required. • NP Candidates: Active RNFA desired or willingness to obtain within one year of hire.
