Guest Service Representative

Cleveland Botanical Garden

Part-Time

Opportunity:

The Guest Services department seeks a friendly team member to facilitate an exceptional guest experience by offering great customer service while educating guests, selling admission, promoting membership, working in the retail store, and contributing to a positive team atmosphere at Cleveland Botanical Garden. We are seeking a team member with a positive can-do attitude that leads to successful teamwork, superb customer service and wants to do meaningful work at Holden Forests & Gardens.

Position Details:

  • A part-time (20 hours), permanent position
  • Training is provided
  • Must have a flexible schedule to be able to work weekends, evenings and some holidays
  • This position is supervised by the Guest Services Manager
  • $15 / hour, non-exempt

Key Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities of the Guest Services Representative include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Holden Forests & Gardens' mission, values, vision, and core commitment to the visitor experience and community engagement

  • Actively welcome and receive guests, providing prompt and courteous service and orientation of the property, programs and events

  • Provide friendly, clear, and courteous customer service to encourage return visitation

  • Manage customer concerns, communicate effectively, provide prompt follow-up and relay information to Guest Services Lead and Manager as needed

  • Process sales transactions for admission, membership, programs, and merchandise quickly and accurately using a computerized cash register and standalone credit card machine with Altru, the organization's constituent management and point-of-sale system.

  • Complete register opening and closing procedures.

  • Assist with maintaining adequate stock levels of merchandise and supplies on store floor and stockroom.

  • Regularly assist with event set-up, support special events and programs.

  • Contribute positively to a team of guest services staff, seasonal employees, volunteers, and others

  • Answer guest telephone calls & emails and assist guests with in-person inquiries

  • Daily check the retail activity report and replace store stock levels

  • Report SKU discrepancies and pricing to the retail inventory coordinator

  • Participate in regularly scheduled inventory counts

  • Maintain the appearance, cleanliness and safety of public spaces, staff workspaces, and facilities

  • Ensure proper admission policies and safety practices are being followed

  • Provide prompt follow-up and relay information as needed to supervisor

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated passion for people and nature
  • High school graduate or equivalent, required
  • Retail and cash handling experience, preferred
  • Customer service experience, preferred
  • Must enjoy working with the general public, including families and children
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication
  • Ability to work within a team and be self-motivating when working individually
  • Ability to take initiative and problem-solve
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work weekends, some evenings and some holidays
  • Must have a valid driver's license or reliable transportation

Physical Requirements

Must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Ability to understand basic instructions using the English language
  • Stand and/or sit for extended periods of time
  • Effective vision and hearing
  • Hand and arm dexterity
  • Walk and work on wet, uneven, slippery terrain
  • Kneel, bend, stoop, grab, and reach
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 25 pounds, occasionally 30 pounds
