Schedule/Hours: Mon - Sat. (29 hours per week)

This position is responsible for:

Develops, supervises, and schedules group fitness programs at The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Kerrville, Texas. Responsible for designing/implementing and teaching safe and appropriate group exercise classes and special events for members and guests; designs all class choreography, performs music selection, and determines appropriate equipment required for each fitness class they teach; learns and implements all choreography as designed by their respective certifying agency; ensures that all exercise and equipment used is done safely and appropriately for the exercise class demographics; ensures safety and cleanliness in fitness spaces provided: the multi- purpose aerobics room; the basketball gym, and the pool. Coordinates group fitness member engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, and supervises the work of assigned staff; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides hiring/firing recommendations.
  • Maintains a positive and professional relationship with program participants; plans, coordinates, and implements member engagement and appreciation initiatives for current and perspective group fitness members to cultivate relationships.
  • Provides excellent and courteous customer service to members; maintains awareness of and promotes all group fitness activities; encourages continuous attendance.
  • Builds and maintains a close relationship with the supervisor, Group Fitness Instructors and guests.
  • Prepares choreography and instructs members in various level of group fitness techniques; provides feedback to participants regarding their performance level.

Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand on one's feet, kneel, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be physically capable of meeting the demands of the fitness center & athletic programs.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Sport Management, Kinesiology, Physical Education or a related field,

AND

  • Two years' experience in the delivery of fitness programs, with at least one year in a supervisory role, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certification & Licensure

  • Professional certification(s) as a General Group Exercise Instructor, and/or specific class-format certification(s), (i.e. Zumba);
  • Any major, widely-recognized specialty certification required to teach copyrighted classes (i.e. Zumba, Mad Dogg Spinning, etc.)
  • First Aid & CPR w/ AED Certifications (or ability to obtain within established timeframe)
