GROUND MAN — ENTRY LEVEL TREE REMOVAL/SERVICES GROUND CREW
Role Purpose
The Ground Man position is the foundation of field operations. This role focuses on learning safe tree work practices, supporting the crew, protecting property, and building skills necessary for advancement.
Core Responsibilities
- Wear required PPE at all times
- Assist with brush dragging, debris handling, and site cleanup
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free jobsites
- Support chipper operations under supervision
- Assist climbers and crew leaders with jobsite setup and breakdown
- Help protect customer property (lawns, landscaping, driveways, structures)
- Participate in daily job briefings, JSAs, and EAP discussions
Safety Expectations
- Follow all safety rules and stop-work authority
- Stay clear of drop zones and active cutting areas
- Report hazards, near misses, and incidents immediately
- Follow traffic control procedures when assigned
Equipment Authorization
- Hand tools
- Chipper support (not lead)
- Limited chainsaw use only when trained and authorized
- Vehicle Driver
- Some equipment operations when instructed
