GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES
The employee is responsible for daily activities associated with the processing of tissues as received from surgical procedures, participation in the education of pathology residents in tissue processing, and participation in the quality assurance activities that are associated with these processes. The incumbent will serve as a Grossing Technician in the Gross Room and Frozen Section Services area under the supervision of the Pathologists Assistant Lead or Medical Director of Pathology Services.
EDUCATION
• Associates degree in laboratory science, chemical, or biological or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution or • Education, training equivalent to the above that includes the following: • 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution • OR • 24 semester hours of science courses that includes 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination • AND • Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
EXPERIENCE
• 1 year of histology and/or grossing experience required
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE
• Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists preferred
