Auburn University Libraries is seeking applicants for a Graduate Student Assistant Leader position in the Library of Architecture, Design, and Construction (LADC). This role supports faculty, staff, and students by contributing to daily operations, delivering high-quality customer service, maintaining organized collections, and fostering a welcoming, functional library environment.
Graduate Student Assistants serve in a frontline leadership capacity, helping ensure smooth operations while guiding and supporting undergraduate student employees. This position requires sound judgment, initiative, and accountability to maintain efficient workflows, support specialized services, and provide excellent user experience in a dynamic academic setting. Student assistants may work up to 20 hours per week, based on operational needs.
The LADC is a branch of Auburn University Libraries that supports the research, teaching, and learning needs of the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction. It also serves professionals in related fields and the broader community.
Summer LADC Hours:
Sunday: Closed
Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday: Closed
Fall LADC Hours:
Sunday: 1:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Monday–Thursday: 7:45 AM – 10:00pm (students begin working at 7:30am)
Friday: 7:45 AM – 5:00 PM (students begin working at 7:30am)
Saturday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
This is not an assistantship and does not offer tuition assistance.
• Oversee daily operations, including opening and closing procedures, to ensure the facility is secure and fully functional
• Provide leadership and guidance to undergraduate student assistants, offering direction, support, and real-time coaching
• Monitor service desk activities to ensure consistency with library policies, procedures, and service standards
• Address and resolve complex patron inquiries and operational issues, using sound judgment and appropriate escalation when needed
• Assist with onboarding and training of student employees to build proficiency in systems, services, and workflows
• Utilize library systems and specialized software (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Autodesk) to support user needs
• Process and deliver Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests, including scanning and preparing materials in accordance with established timelines
• Anticipate service demands and adjust priorities to maintain efficient and continuous operations
• Provide staffing support as needed, including assisting with shift coverage to ensure continuity of service
• Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and clear communication in all aspects of the role
