Job Summary

The Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) provides basic nursing care under the direct supervision of a licensed registered nurse (RN) in an acute care setting. This role is designed for newly graduated nurses who are transitioning into professional nursing practice. The Graduate RN delivers patient care, administers treatments, and supports patient education to promote recovery, safety, and well-being.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the development and implementation of individualized patient care plans, collaborating with experienced RNs and healthcare teams.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with protocols.
  • Performs patient assessments, documenting vital signs, patient responses, and any changes in condition promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Provides patient and family education, addressing basic care, procedures, and treatment plans to promote patient understanding and adherence.
  • Supports patient mobility, personal hygiene, and daily living activities, maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams, reporting changes in patient conditions to supervising RNs.
  • Adheres to infection control protocols, patient safety guidelines, and hospital policies to maintain a safe care environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of experience in a clinical nursing role or student clinical rotations in an acute care setting required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices.
  • Ability to perform thorough patient assessments and communicate findings effectively.
  • Proficient in administering medications and monitoring for side effects.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documenting patient care.
  • Knowledge of safety standards, infection control, and quality improvement initiatives.

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation preferred
  • Refer to facility or unit-specific guidelines for additional requirements.
