GRADUATE ENGINEER
$2,350.05 - $3,407.57- Biweekly

Performs engineering duties in the design, construction and operation of public works projects, including streets, storm water systems, traffic controls, water and wastewater facilities, and utility systems; evaluates, reviews and prepares plans and specifications; performs a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

Acts as liaison for the Public Works Engineering Department activities with developers, consultants, citizens, planning and zoning commission, and public utility companies in the design, construction and operation of Public Works projects for both private development and Capital Improvement Projects.
Essential Functions
GRADUATE ENGINEER
Reviews and approves changes to approved plans and specifications.
Provides assistance to construction inspectors in the interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during construction; reviews as-built plans to ensure compliance with original plans and specifications.
Prepares engineering designs, specifications, costs and quantity estimates for public work projects; obtains required easements or permits for street, utility, water and wastewater, sewer and other public works system construction.
Prepares project specifications and cost estimates supporting the selection of outside engineering services.
Prepares maps, deeds, legal descriptions, and other contract documents; utilizes a variety of engineering programs and applications, including CAD.
Conducts field inspections to ensure construction plans and specifications are accurate.
Maintains awareness of progress on assigned projects to assure compliance with designated time and cost estimates.
Conducts and reports on alternative treatment processes and optimization.
Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in the Department and City attendance policies and procedures; ensures all behaviors comply with the City's Human Resources Rules and Regulations.
Ensures construction plans and specifications are accurate.
Ensures as-built plans comply with original plans and specifications.
Ensures engineering technical reviews are accurate, timely and efficiently conducted.
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
CIVIL ENGINEER
Performs civil engineering review of plats, engineering studies, construction plans and specifications for public works improvements in private developer and in-house engineering designed projects assuring proper communication and documentation.
Coordinates with public utility companies all system improvements, expansions and maintenance
projects.
Reviews new developments to conform with Master Thoroughfare, Master Water Responsible for the Distribution and Master Wastewater Collection Plans.
Provides engineering assistance to other City departments.
Researches and answers questions and complaints from citizens.
Assists in supporting the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Ensures engineering/ technical reviews are accurate, timely and efficiently conducted.
Assists in ensuring coordination, representation, communication and documentation between a wide variety of involved and affected parties (citizens, developers, consultants, utility companies, city
departments, etc.) on prospective development projects and the associated public works improvements.
Ensures plat reviews and engineering technical reviews are accurate, timely and efficiently conducted.
Ensures efficient and quality construction of assigned City CIP projects and developer public works projects through close coordination with Construction Inspection Staff.
Ensures coordination, representation, communication and documentation between a wide variety of involved and affected parties (citizens, developers, consultants, utility companies, city departments, etc.) on public works improvement project and City Capital Improvement Projects.
Ensures design of assigned City CIP projects are on schedule and meet or exceed City Specifications and standards.
Ensures Citys compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program.
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
GRADUATE ENGINEER
Must possess a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
EIT Certification preferred.
No work experience required; however, an Internship in a municipal engineering environment is preferred
Must be proficient with assorted technology and computer software, i.e. Microsoft office, iPods, iPads and scanning equipment.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check. Must have a valid Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
CIVIL ENGINEER
Requires Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering plus three years' experience in public works projects or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas preferred or must obtain Texas PE within 12 months of hire date.
Specific training and experience in one or more of the following is required: design of water, sanitary, sewer, storm sewer, drainage, storm water hydraulics/hydrology, parking lots, platting and streets.
Experience in public works projects to include design and contract management desirable.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check. Must have a valid Texas drivers license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors. There will be occasional exposure to outdoor weather elements.
