Job Summary

The Graduate Assistant will provide educationally beneficial assistance to The Graduate School and Office of Graduate Admissions. Provide support in the daily operations of The Graduate School and Graduate Admissions office. Assist the staff with admissions, recruitment, and retention processes and activities. Activities include assisting with answering telephones and email inquiries from prospective graduate students, greeting office guests, data entry, and file maintenance. Work closely with the Assistant Director of The Graduate School to support the planning, coordination, and execution of graduate related virtual and in-person events and programs. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

Administrative Support - 70%

Assist the Assistant Director of The Graduate with graduate retention efforts and graduate student programming initiatives, and assist the Office of Graduate Admissions staff with graduate admissions and recruitment activities. Assist with answering telephones, greeting office guests, data entry, and file maintenance.

Project Coordination - 20%

Assist the Assistant Director of The Graduate School to support the planning, coordination, and execution of graduate related virtual and in-person programming.

Other Duties as Assigned - 10%

The graduate assistant performs other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

Bachelors degree

Other Required Qualifications

Approved for regular admission to a graduate degree program at Georgia College & State University. Upload Acceptance into "Additional Documents" attachment in application.

Maintain academic good standing. If a students grade point average falls below a 3.00 (academic warning), the student will have next semester or summer term to improve and return to good standing before termination of the assistantship. Should a student fail to return to good standing after the next semester or summer term, or should a student receive academic exclusion and be dismissed from the degree program, the assistantship will be terminated at once.

This position will work in-person 19 hours per week.

Full assistantships (19 hours/week) cover all but $25 of tuition.

Applicable student fees are not covered by the assistantship.

Course loads for graduate assistants must be at least 6 graduate semester hours.

ABILITIES

Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment, to take initiative, and to follow through with all responsibilities and assigned tasks.

KNOWLEDGE

Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Email, Excel, and Word. Some social media but not a requirement.

SKILLS

Excellent computer, phone, and customer service skills.

Detail oriented and ability to prioritize tasks.

Analytical, organizational, and written communication skills.
